Hello everyone,
Firstly, I’d like to thank you for beginning the journey at the ground level. As this is my first exploration of presenting my work in a written and Visual form, I’d like to extend the opportunity for feedback. I will be likely experimenting with various presentation formats and eventually will settle on something that feels right. Feel free to offer opinions and insights.
Before I present the Castle sequences, I want to explain why I chose this format as a new focus. I believe that digital design and art platforms specifically lack the presentation methods that connect a viewer to the artist. I believe that understanding not only what someone is thinking, but how they are thinking when creating, is crucial to fully enjoying a piece of artwork. This is not to say that every design has to have a specific message, however, when a viewer can begin to see the work through the eyes of the creator, a new perspective is formed. Hopefully as this journey begins, you will learn more about what I see in my own work as well as how I feel when I create each piece.
The Sequence
Design 1
By Far one of my most successful images commercially, I really enjoyed creating this piece. I imagine this castle being carved right out of the rock it sits upon. Why it was created is a mystery, however it was certainly long forgotten about. I wanted to focus on the perspective and contrast between the green and white tones.
Design 2
Changing from shades of green to deep pinks and purple, I wanted to focus on movement. The goal was to use the clouds, the contrast of the light hitting the walls of the castle, as well as the light hitting the ground to mimic the likely dance that the two knights would have been partaking in on their horses. I felt that this work was playful and dynamic and an overall easy piece to read.
Design 3
Finally the last image within this sequence. A very simple composition, offering a telescopic view of the castle and the surrounding mountain. Having produced two portrait style compositions, I had wanted to explore a new approach to the design. To me this feels like the most grounded piece of the three. Likely, a very unrealistic and dangerous method of construction, however I enjoy the realistic color palette and dark and light contrast between the snow and the stone.
Takeaways
This experiment was very enjoyable for me. Mainly, because I had to challenge myself to use the same design in 3 different ways. As you might have been able to tell, all that has really changed in the three images are the color of the building, the lighting and its surroundings. This however, offers three distinct moods, communicating different emotions in each design. I encourage you to instill some set limitations in your ideas. Do not let it define what you make, however, allow it to focus the creative energy in efficiency of communication and in finding new ways to present a design.
